Male Carers

Approximately 40% of all carers are male. Being a carer can be very daunting as for some it can be a role reversal, an unfamiliar task, suddenly having to give up work, and a major lifestyle change. Many people still see caring as a more female orientation, so for many males in this role they feel isolated, can be less likely to seek support, which in turn can affect their ability to carry out their role.

This group allows members the ability to link with other male carers and discuss issues, services, create new friendships and potentially interests. After an initial meeting it was agreed that the sessions would be split between social activities and bringing in professionals, while always focusing on the value of peer support.

Outings and activities involving football, grass bowls, cards, dominoes, lunch, have so far been suggested. More suggestions are welcome and will be discussed in the group. The direction and activities are for you as a group to decide.

Please come along, have some well deserved time out and hopefully fun, while feeling supported, less isolated and more confident in your role.

This group is supported by Duncan, Group Worker, Renfrewshire Carers. The first meeting of this group will be on Tuesday 6th March and will then meet regularly on the 1st Tuesday of every month, 1-3pm, in the Norcroft Medical Centre.
