Renfrewshire Carers Centre now has a support group for Young Adult carers which meet on a fortnightly basis in the premises at the Embroidery mill.
The group while very new is looking to address the following issues previously identified by the young adult carers themselves:
Help to access the training experiences they require, including support to access further education, assistance with job applications and interviews build a comprehensive CV, and obtain voluntary work. We would also offer every young person the opportunity to take part in gaining the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award, which enables young people to develop their skills for work and become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.
Support young people to get a bank account, obtain relevant benefits available to them, make young people aware of the benefits of credit union and also offer individual support dependent on individuals needs in terms of financial problems or worries.
Work in partnership with other agencies including the health improvement team. We will offer advice on subjects such as sexual health, healthy eating and stress management. We would also support young people to seek professional help for any individual need that may arise.
Through the group support the young people will be consulted on what leisure activities they would like to partake in their community, thus building confidence and self-esteem.
The group meet every fortnight on a Thursday fro 6.00p.m. – 8.00pm. in the Carers Centre For more information please contact Christine or Pauline on 0141 887 3643.
